Daisies

On Sunday, April 29, 2007, I went for an evening drive, just about 20 minutes outside of Kamloops, BC to see the sunset. On the Harper Mountain Road I saw wild daisies growing on the side of the road. They were beautiful with their bright yellow petals.

Deer

On Sunday, April 29, 2007, I went for an evening drive, just about 20 minutes outside of Kamloops, BC to see the sunset. I saw three deer standing on the side of the road on the Harper Mountain Road. I would imagine there is a lot of deer in this area. It has lots of vegetation for them and lots of bush too.

Harper Mountain Ski Area

On Sunday, April 29, 2007, I went for an evening drive, just about 20 minutes outside of Kamloops, BC to see the sunset. I went to Harper Mountain Road. This is a picture of the Harper Mountain Ski Area. The Harper Mountain Road is actually quite steep and there was a beautiful view up there. There was actually snow in the bush up in that area still.

Loon

On Sunday, April 29, 2007, I went for an evening drive, just about 20 minutes outside of Kamloops, BC to see the sunset. I saw this loon swimming in a lake on Paul Lake Road.

Loons are very fascinating. They are noticeable because of their distinct black and white colours. They have a pure black head and their wings are checkered. Loons have a very distinct call. It is very lonely sounding.

Buttercup

On Sunday, April 22, 2007, I went for a drive north of Kamloops, BC to a rest stop area where I saw some buttercups growing. Buttercups are really pretty flowers. They are very small and are a bright yellow in colour. I remember as a kid putting a buttercup under someone's chin and if their chin turned yellow then they liked butter.

Mallard Ducks

On Sunday, April 22, 2007, I went for a drive to Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park in Logan Lake, BC. I saw a pair of mallard ducks. The more colourful one is the male. I think it is funny how male birds are always more colourful than the females. Look how drab the poor female mallard duck is. She is plain Jane. It is still fascinating to see them though and I also love the way they waddle when they walk.

Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park

I had just read an article about the wild horse herd that is located at the Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park, Logan Lake, BC this past week. I was amazed to read that there are actually wild horses in this province. I never knew this.

On Sunday, April 22, 2007, I went for a drive out to Savona, BC, which is located west of Kamloops, BC on Highway 1. I saw a sign on the highway that said Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park.

"Weird," I thought to myself. "I had just read that article about the wild horses out here."

I wanted to see the wild horses so bad. The provincial park was 25 km down the road. The road was actually in pretty good shape. Some roads I have been on in BC have actually turned out to not even be a road at all so it is nice when you do come across a road that is well maintained.

Now, I was a little disappointed because I did not get to see the wild horses. However, I did get to see a coyote and I was thrilled to death. I love coyotes. They are my favourite four-footed furry animal. I actually got to see coyote twice. However, he was too far away for me to get a picture of him.

Pussy Willows

On Sunday, April 22, 2007, I went for a drive to Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park in Logan Lake, BC. I saw some pussy willows growing in a little swamp. I haven't seen pussy willows since I was a kid and I believe the last ones I saw were in Bobcaygeon, Ontario at my grandparents cottage.

Pussy willows obviously like to grow in swampy areas and they are kind of a unique plant because they have soft little buds on them. They are not like any other kind of plant that I have ever seen.

Wild Horses

Ever since moving to British Columbia, two years ago, I have felt closer to nature because of the mountains and wildlife that I have seen. However, I never expected I would ever find out that we have wild horses living in this beautiful province.

Wild horses to me, represent the true wild west. There are parts of this province that are still untouched and untame and to know that we have wild horses here just confirms this.

One day I went for a drive and saw some horses running wild in a field. Now, I don't think they were the true wild horses but it sure was something to see. They were running free and wild and their manes were flowing with the wind. It was so cool. It was like I was taken out of my present time period and dropped into the past, just for a split second. The past I've only read about and heard about, the past that I have never seen.

I learn something new about this province all the time. Take for instance the fact that British Columbia has a desert. It happens to be Canada's only desert and is also a very well kept secret. Not too many people know that it is here.

I used to think that the province of Alberta had the best of everything because they had the prairies, oil sands and mountains. However, I am learning now that British Columbia definitely has the best of everything. We have the ocean, mountains, prairies, desert and now I find out we even have wild horses, that is just awesome!

Sagebrush

On April 15, 2007, I went to Lac De Bois Grassland Park in Kamloops, BC. I took a picture of this sagebrush. Sagebrush is dominant all over the grassland park. I love the looks of sagebrush. It looks wild, rugged and untame, just like the wild, wild west should be. When I see sagebrush I think of the old western movies. I also think of tumbleweed because I have seen sagebrush roll along the streets of Kamloops, just like tumbleweed. It is a pretty cool sight to see.

Invasion of the Crows

On April 8, 2007, I went to Valemount, BC. I saw crows and tons of them. The crows were huge and black and kind of ugly. I don't like crows very much. In fact, I despise them. When I think of crows, they remind me of morbid things and death.

I was thinking that I was being invaded by these crows because there were so many of them but then I realized just what was happening. It was mating season for the crows!

One male crow, the biggest one of the bunch, was sitting with his feathers fluffed right out. He did a kind of little dance for the females and they seemed quite content. I was a little embarrassed when I realized just what was going on.

Valemount, BC

On April 8, 2007, I went to Valemount, BC. I drove through Valemount about 3 years ago but I don't remember it being as beautiful as it is. I was amazed at the mountains. I was also amazed at the snow on the mountains. It was 20 degrees Celcius and it was a warm, sunny day. I noticed a lot of pickup trucks with snowmobiles on the back of them.

In Kamloops, BC, where I live, there is hardly any snow in the mountains and there is no snow on the ground at all. In Blue River, a town just west of Valemount, there was a lot of snow on the ground still.

Lac De Bois Grassland Park

On April 1, 2007, I went for a drive to Lac De Bois Grassland Park. It was cold way up in the mountain. I love the landscape at Grassland Park. This area looks like termite hills and you can see sage brush in the background. It is desolate and barren here.
