Redheaded Woodpecker

On February 26, 2007, I went for a drive to see some wildlife out at Lac De Bois Grassland Park and I was lucky enough to see this redheaded woodpecker. He was pecking holes in this hydro pole. I was able to get quite close to him and he didn't seem to mind me taking his picture. I've seen a couple of redheaded woodpeckers in my lifetime. One was when I was living in Sharbot Lake, Ontario and another one that I saw was while I was camping at Paul Lake Provincial Park last year. This is the closest I have ever been able to get to one.

Mountain Sheep

On February 26, 2007, I went for a drive to see some wildlife out at Lac De Bois Grassland Park. There was a herd of mountain sheep in this field. It looks like they were enjoying themselves grazing. It was warm in the city of Kamloops, but up in Lac De Bois Grassland Park, it was pretty cold. The cold weather didn't seem to bother them.

Trail, BC

I was fortunate enough to spend my vacation in Trail, BC in the summer of 2006. I had visited Trail two summer's ago and I thoroughly enjoyed myself then. I had the best time of my life in Trail, BC this vacation also. We camped at Beaver Creek Campground again and were fortunate enough to get the exact same campsite that we had the first trip.

The Columbia River was mighty and beautiful. It is clean and the water is so blue that you can see the bottom of the river. Once again, there were no mosquitoes. It was awesome. I was in heaven again.

While camping this time, I saw a grouse sitting in a tree. I also saw three bald eagles flying overhead and several turkey vultures. Now, turkey vultures I could live without but not the bald eagles. I love bald eagles.


We spent some time in downtown Trail on this vacation. We got some ice cream at Dairy Queen in Trail and while there, we saw a mural of what Trail looked like in the olden days. We saw the huge pulp and paper mill and also the Trail Memorial Center.

We also took a ride down toward the US border at Waneta. We did not go across to the states because the border was closed but it was neat knowing we were so close to a different country.

We also saw the Seven Mile Dam while driving toward the border. Wow, it was huge! I couldn't believe the size of it. While driving on Highway 22A, we also drove over a rickety old bridge and I remember looking out my mirror to see if there were pieces of the bridge flying up in the air.

I love Trail, BC and everything it has to offer. I just hope it won't be another two years before I visit Trail again.

Train

There is nothing like seeing a against a backdrop of mountains. It just feels so western. I saw this train stopped along the side of the Trans Canada Highway just east of Kamloops, BC.

Okanagon Connector

There is a beautiful stretch of highway in British Columbia called the Okanagon Connector. I've been on this highway twice now. It is pretty awesome. At some points in the highway you feel like you are at the top of the world and as a matter of fact, you probably are.

North Thompson River

I recently took a drive on Highway 5 north in British Columbia, Canada. This is a picture of the North Thompson River which runs north of Kamloops, BC. The river twists and winds itself along the highway and there are many places along it that you can stop and view it.

Rivers Trail

On Sunday, March 12, 2006, I went for a walk on Rivers Trail, Kamloops, BC. It was a beautiful day for a walk. The sun was shining and there were quite a few people enjoying walking, jogging and biking along the trail. There were also quite a few animals out enjoying the sun. I ran across this groundhog sitting just outside of this den. He sat there for quite awhile until he finally went back inside.

Kelowna International Airport

This is a picture of an airplane that I took on February 11, 2006 while driving through Kelowna, BC. This plane was just coming in for a landing at the Kelowna International Airport.

Little Fort, British Columbia

This river is located at a roadside rest stop in Little Fort, BC. You can see that the water is flowing quite fast here. You would definitely want to make sure your children do not get too close to the edge.

Sun Peaks

I took this picture of a daffodil while on a recent visit to Sun Peaks Resort, Kamloops, BC. A daffodil is a sure sign that spring is in the air.

Spiral Tunnels

On my travels through British Columbia, Canada, I stopped at the Spiral Tunnels. Not only is it a beautiful sight to see with the majestic mountains and tall trees but it is awesome to see the train curling around itself through the tunnels.

Trail, BC

I visited Trail, BC in the summer of 2004. I was mesmerized by the Columbia River and the beauty of the Kootenay mountains. Trail, BC has a place in my heart that is never going to go away.

Coming into Trail from the East Kootenay pass, we saw a mountain sheep standing in the middle of the road. He just stood there and if you wanted to get by him, he wasn't going to move but you had to go around him.

I remember it was 40 degrees Celsius when we arrived in Trail. I can also remember being able to sit by the Columbia River at 10:00 pm at night and enjoying the evening because there was not a mosquito to be found. Coming from Ontario, Canada, mosquitoes always swarm you to death and make it miserable. However, this did not happen in Trail. No mosquitoes! It was heaven!

We camped at the Beaver Creek Campground. It is situated on the eastern shore of the Columbia River. This campground is clean and quiet and we pretty much had the whole campground to ourselves for the few days that we spent there.

The first day that we were camping, we saw a bald eagle fly right over our heads. That bald eagle was the very first wild bald eagle that I had ever seen in my life and it is burned into my memory forever.

I would recommend Trail, BC to anyone that wants to discover the Kootenay mountain range in British Columbia, Canada.
