Seagull

On Monday, May 21, 2007, I went for a drive to some of the lakes in the Kamloops area. I saw this seagull flying in the air. It doesn't matter where I've been in Canada, I have seen seagulls everywhere. They seem to frequent any source of water they can find. I find seagulls to be annoying. They seem to squawk alot.

Marmot

On Monday, May 21, 2007, I went for a drive to some of the lakes in the Kamloops area. I saw some marmot's sitting on the side of the road. Some of them were just sitting on the side of the road, some of them were running across the road and others were sunning themselves on tires. Marmots are big and furry. They remind me of an oversized groundhog. I never saw a marmot until I moved out here to BC.

South Thompson River

On Sunday, May 20, 2007, I went to the grassland park and was very surprised to see how much the South Thompson River was starting to rise. There are concerns this year about flooding in the Kamloops area. The ice has not come down from the mountains yet and that will happen in the next few weeks, especially now that the weather is getting warmer every day here. We usually have a lot of sandy areas on the beaches along the North and South Thompson Rivers but right now the water has covered up most of it. In April, I was up in the snow-covered mountains in Valemount and believe me there is a lot of snow and ice to come down off the mountains yet and something else I didn't realize is that the North Thompson River goes all the way up to the Valemount area.

Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park

On Saturday, May 19, 2007, I went camping for the night at Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park. Tunkwa Lake Provincial Park is located just outside of Logan Lake, BC.

It was the May 24th long weekend here in Canada and just like any other May 24th long weekend, the weather proved to be terrible. It rained, it was very windy and it was very cold. Next May 24th long weekend, I don't think I'm going to go camping unless it is at least 30 degrees Celsius. It was just too miserable and too cold to enjoy the fresh mountain air.

Osprey

On Monday, May 14, 2007, I went for a drive to the Lac De Bois Grassland Park in Kamloops, BC. I saw an osprey flying over to his nest which was on top of a hydro pole. There was another osprey on the nest already and I am assuming that there are probably baby osprey in the nest too.

Mallard Ducks

On Sunday, May 13, 2007, I went for a drive to Paul Lake Provincial Park. It was pretty windy and a little cool but it was still nice to be by the mountains and the lake. I saw these two male mallard ducks fighting with each other. They were fighting over the one female that was with them. I never thought that mallards fought. I always thought they were peaceful birds. I guess I was wrong.

Squirrel

On Sunday, May 6, 2007, I went for a day drive to Shuswap Lake Provincial Park, just outside of Chase, BC. I was watching a different squirrel in a tree just ahead of me and then I saw a shadow right beside me. I was standing about a foot away from this squirrel and didn't hear it at all. If I didn't see the shadow I wouldn't have seen the squirrel.

Mallard Duck

On Sunday, May 6, 2007, I went for a day drive to Shuswap Lake Provincial Park, just outside of Chase, BC. I saw this mallard duck swimming on the Shuswap Lake. I stood on the beach and he swam right past me.

Squirrel

On Sunday, May 6, 2007, I went for a day drive to Shuswap Lake Provincial Park, just outside of Chase, BC. I saw a squirrel climbing this tree. This squirrel was very noisy and he let me know that he was there. He was eating the nuts from a pine cone and they would fall out of his mouth onto the ground.

Old Tree

On Sunday, May 6, 2007, I went for a day drive to Shuswap Lake Provincial Park, just outside of Chase, BC. Shuswap Lake Provincial Park has a lot of really old trees in it. Some of them are very tall too like the one in this picture. This tree is probably 150 years old or more and it is probably sixty feet tall or more.

Osprey

On Sunday, May 6, 2007, I went for a day drive to Shuswap Lake Provincial Park, just outside of Chase, BC. On the way to the park I saw this osprey sitting on her nest. The osprey's nest was situated just before the bridge that takes you to the north side of the Shuswap Lake. This nest was located at the top of a hydro pole. I always watch the top of hydro poles because you never know what you will see.

Batchelor Heights, Kamloops, BC

On Monday, April 30, 2007, it was a nice day so I decided to go for a little drive. I went up the Batchelor Heights Road in Kamloops, BC. It was awesome up there. I never knew it so beautiful. Batchelor Heights is like on the top of a mountain and it is part of Lac De Bois Grassland Park. It is very high up and the view is spectacular as you are able to see the whole city of Kamloops.

I plan on climbing to the very top of the mountain in this photograph someday. It will be my ultimate dream come true because I have always wanted to climb to the very top of a mountain. Even though this mountain is not really all that tall, I will still be able to say that I climbed to the top of it.
